August was a busy month for us! Dr. Ross and staff traveled to Canon City, CO for Colorado Mission of Mercy, also known as COMOM. This is the second year Ross Family Dentistry has participated in the program.
If you have never heard about COMOM, it is a truly special event. Dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, front desk personnel, and even non-dental people volunteer their weekend to provide dentistry to those in need. The treatments range from cleanings, dental fillings, root canals, and crowns all the way to extractions and dentures and partials. Dr. Ross, along with her two dental assistants, Sandy and Natalie, were in the restorative section of the program, which means we provided dental fillings. Kathleen who is the front desk person at Ross Family Dentistry worked in the checkout area at COMOM.
The event was two days long this year, August 14th and 15th. The team from Ross Family Dentistry volunteered Friday August 14th. We arrived at Harrison School in Canon City at 6 a.m. and left at 6 p.m. Dr. Ross saw roughly 15 patients, and the grand total of dental treatment donated by all participants was over $1,000,000! That’s pretty impressive and shows just how much need there is in our state! Ross Family Dentistry is honored to be part of such a wonderful event and proud to be included in an organization that provides people with the great gift of a smile!
Dr. Ross and her staff decided to stay the weekend and explore Canon City. It is a beautiful town with great views of the mountains. There were so many activities to choose from and we did our best to try them all! On Saturday, Ross Family Dentistry journeyed to the Royal Gorge where we rode the cart across the gorge then zip-lined back across. We walked across the suspension bridge. Dr. Ross, Sandy, and Natalie decided to be brave and ride the bungee sling shot across the gorge! It was amazing! But our adventure was not over yet! We next went zip-lining in the mountains. There were 9 lines that we zipped across. Breathtaking!
We met some amazing people on our weekend trip, and everyone at Ross Family Dentistry is grateful to Dr. Ross for volunteering her time and talents and for bringing us along with her to this wonderful event! If you haven’t checked out COMOM’s website, http://comom.org, make sure you do in order to see where they’ll go next year!
